Much of her childhood was spent outside playing and that mindset has followed her into adulthood. Today Samantha finds joy in glassblowing, craft, photography, gardening, bird watching and hiking with her two dogs. Samantha earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she focused on craft and material studies. Not wanting her glass education to stop there, in 2018, Samantha also earned an Associate in Applied Science from Salem Community College where she concentrated in scientific glass technologies. Samantha worked as a glassblowing production worker and teacher for over 10 years. I took dancing classes, skied, swam and played baseball, softball, basketball and my favorite, soccer. I was a very competitive child and found it rewarding to practice and train. Glassblowing caught my interest immediately because the process and required teamwork reminded me of a sport. The glass studio challenges me physically while also allowing me to express myself artistically. I am originally from the Pinelands in New Jersey and lived most of my life only a few miles from the coastline. When creating glass pieces I find that most of my inspiration comes from the landscape that surrounded me as I grew up. The objects I create are often visual depiction of the feeling of being “home”.
